Statement

An Object for TH – Disciplinated Trust is the correspondence sent every week during a year by artist Tania Bruguera to artist Thomas Hirschhorn. The letters were sent from the various geographical places in which its sender was during that time. When reaching the addressee, they are placed in a transparent acrylic box. The letters are closed with sealing wax and bear a stamp especially made for the work, guaranteeing the visibility of the compliance with the terms in which the work has been conceived. Both artists have made a commitment: one of them, of having the discipline to maintain an extremely honest systematic report through letters written and sent and, the other, to receive the letters and keep them unread, thus creating an impossible communicative situation. Both parties, are in a position – one as the receiver and the other as the emissary – of respecting the commitment stemming from a private pact in which the systematic nature of the action is an individual exercise in discipline and mutual trust.
